News about the Festival

The VI. South-American Hungarian Folkdance Festival
took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in July 12 and 13,
at the Paulo Eiro Theater.

During these two days folkdance groups from Argentina, Brazil,
Uruguay and Venezuela presented authentical hungarian dances
and music from many different regions of Hungary and hungarian inhabited
villages from the Karpathian basin countries.

The Festival was a huge success, the theater was fully booked the two days.
There were even standing people.

The biggest newspaper from Sao Paulo also annouced the event, so there were long
lines at the entrance. We were stressed to find out a way to accomodate so many viewers

The show was at a high level. This year all the groups, from all the countries reached
the top level. It would be very difficult to pick up the best.

The public, mainly the non-hungarians, was surprised by the unespected nearly
professional presentation. As usual, two years from now another south-american country
will house the Festival. Venezuela is in the turn in 1999.

See you again in Venezuela!
